The League of American Bicyclists Announces TriSports.com as a 2014 Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business

TUCSON, AZ (April 22, 2014)On this Earth Day, TriSports.com is proud to be named once again as a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) in an impressive group of 80 new and renewing BFBs leading America toward a greener future. “Visionary business leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “We applaud this new round of businesses for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their employees.”

Businesses that apply for the award are contributing to a more bicycle-friendly lifestyle for their employees. TriSports.com serves as an example for best practices and innovations in bicycle friendliness at the workplace, making bicycling an easy option for transportation and providing amenities such as showers and a locker room and incentives such as credit for miles commuted. Back in 2010, TriSports.com was the first BFB in the entire state of Arizona and hopes that the example set by the company has helped encourage other businesses to apply and achieve BFB status.

The staff and management at TriSports.com were very happy to learn about their renewal as a Silver Level award designee. “As a bicycle retailer, we feel that we have even more of a responsibility to our employees and our community to be a Bicycle Friendly Business. Our commuter program has been successful for many years, and we strive to offer our employees as many opportunities as possible to encourage them to ride their bikes to work. As a company, we commuted over 29,000 miles to work in 2013, and close to 180,000 miles since the official inception of our program, so we will continue to develop new strategies to increase participation and grow that number,” stated Seton Claggett, CEO of TriSports.com.

There are a lot of very simple, effective and creative ways that companies are finding to get people back on their bikes, and the League is proud to recognize the efforts of working America to make our nation a more bike-friendly place. Companies across the country are realizing that getting their employees biking – either to or from work, in course of work, or even in their own time – is good for business. When bicycling is infused in a company’s culture, great things happen: reduced health care costs; more productive employees; improved worker and customer satisfaction; smaller carbon footprint; and increased corporate social responsibility.

Applying for BFB recognition is easy and free. Applicants receive technical assistance from the League staff as well as tools to evaluate and assess their bicycle friendliness through the application process. The BFB application is available online at http://bikeleague.org/content/businesses.
