I had never really considered doing anything else to care for my skin besides using soap, water and sunscreen, so I was intrigued by this opportunity to test the Dermasport skin care products. Dermasport is a new product from SBR Sports, Inc., a multi-sport focused company that has developed several body care products, including a hair care line for swimmers (TriSwim) and anti-chafing products (TriSlide).
The Dermasport skin care kit includes a facial cleanser (you can choose between normal to oily or dry skin), toner, moisturizer, and eye cream. Each bottle has a twist lock so the whole set is easy to travel with.
I’ll admit to being skeptical of skin care product claims and, to be fair, this review is in comparison to my previous nearly non-existent skin care regime involving bar soap and whatever drugstore moisturizer and sunscreen I happen to find in my medicine cabinet. I was a little concerned about adding several steps to my morning routine, but the whole process is actually pretty quick and easy to follow with bottles labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4 in order of use, for the skin care newbie.
I started using the full set of products in March, after several months of my skin drying out from the harsh, cold and windy winter in the northeast. While the products are designed to use together in a set, they can be purchased and used separately. I used the complete set of four products.
The first step is the facial cleanser, which feels very light, with a mild, refreshing scent. The cleanser does a great job of cleaning dirt, oil and sweat from the skin without feeling to harsh or leaving my skin feeling too dry.
The clarifying spray toner is next, which is intended to brighten and even out skin tone as well as add moisture to the skin. The spray has a nice, soothing feel and only takes a few moments to dry before being able to apply the moisturizer.
The moisturizer feels light but is absorbed well and only a tiny amount is needed. Other moisturizers that I’ve used, I’ve needed to re-apply multiple times, especially in winter when my skin is super dry, so I was pleasantly surprised at how effective the Dermasport moisturizer penetrates and lasts.
The last step is a dab of eye cream. I’ve never used eye cream before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I do not magically look ten years younger, but overall, my skin feels much healthier and more supple.
Not surprisingly, my skin felt much softer and smoother immediately upon using the Dermasport products. All four of the Dermasport products use a variety of natural ingredients that are meant to reduce fine lines, hydrate and brighten the skin. I can’t speak to the science of all the ingredients, but there is a whole farm basket full of natural ingredients and extracts loaded with antioxidants (pomegranate, mushroom, green tea, goji berry, olive and many more) that I’m sure are much better for my skin than whatever ingredients are in the drugstore products that I was previously using. The products all have a very subtle, slightly citrusy scent– not at all overpowering and no synthetic fragrances are used.
Overall, the Dermasport athletic skin care kit is a great value. I like that the products are designed specifically for athletes to reduce the effects of sun, sweat, wind and chlorine. I’ve been convinced to do a better job taking care of my skin, and will continue to use the Dermasport products. My only suggestion would be for SBR Sports, Inc. to develop a sun protection product as part of this kit, since this is essential for triathletes and important to keeping your skin healthy.
